Our new found Climate

Eleven days ago the kids were out in the field enjoying the windy days and flying their kites. The weather has been very pleasant for us. When we arrived mid September, the temperatures were in the high 80s. The one afternoon, it was 87 and very pleasant to us, but the individuals around here were actually stating it was one of the hottest days of the summer. The humidity is not a variable here, so 87 in North Dakota is definitely not the same as 87 in Ohio, and then you factor in the wind around here.

The weather or temperatures were pleasant the first couple of weeks we were here. It would be high 80s and then by the evening it would be cool and breezy enough we could turn off the air and open the windows. Actually, we didn't have the air on much because of the breeze and cool temps.

BUT, with all good things, they come to an end.

The last couple of days have been on the bit chilly side, but nothing too bad. We just have to get use to the 20-30 mph winds.

Believe it or not this was today . . .

Yes, that is SNOW!! Okay, they have been forecasting snow since Monday, but here in Bismarck we hadn't gotten any until today. Evidently, the normal temperatures this time of the year are in the mid to high 60's but today's high was only 27 with wind gusts of 30 mph. We keep being told about the 103" of snow they had last year, which was one inch short of the record. Now, since the first snow fell today, I have learned that they only have had three months without snow over the last twelve months. When we visited in July we were assured that snow storms like that only happen every 10-12 years; however, since we have arrived and unloaded the moving truck we have been told they are forecasting a worse winter than last year. YEAH ME!! Normally, the kids get snow boots for Christmas, but they are all new owners of snow boots – we made a trip to Payless and we all got new boots for the winter season.

It was fun watching the kids fly their kites while we were out there! They were doing a great job!I especially liked when they would get them up, then Zack would get up on the back deck and sit while he held the kite flying!!!
