As I have mentioned, we have been really busy. It is nice having resources and activities for the kids and even myself to do, but it is hard to get into a good schedule and even catch one’s breath. Between school work at home, two co-ops, and numerous other routine weekly things it is nice to take a break and enjoy some other activities.
A friend had mentioned a trip to the zoo with some other home school families and after thoughtful consideration and obtaining some free passes, I decided it would be great fun.
It was a wonderful day, the temperature was a little chilly at first with a light breeze, but we all had light jackets or sweatshirts. Unfortunately all the families that had planned on attending weren’t able to make it because of sick kiddos – we missed them, but we still had a good size crowd between the three families – 3 adults and 11 kiddos.
We spent over five hours in the zoo and walked from one side to the other and still didn’t get to see everything, so I guess we’ll have to make another trip and catch the rest.
Our first stop was Asia Quest -
Look at Fluffy!!
Loved watching this little baby with its mommy.
This one was a hoot to watch!! She would just hang out with her feet propped up on the window while the other two in this habitat were chasing each other and really bouncing off the walls!!!
The kids were mesmerized by their antics.
We (Zack, Kenzie, & I) finally got to see Beco. He was born last summer and we never ventured into the zoo because we didn’t want to brave the lines to see him. Now he is just one of the elephants.
After spending some quality time in Asia Quest, we decided it was time for lunch. We found a shelter area and broke out our picnic lunches and enjoyed a quick simple meal and conversations.
After eating, we checked out the three lion cups, which are huge now. This little one was adorable sleeping on his back.
After another quick break and Lindy scoping out the map, we headed to North America to visit the polar bear exhibit.
Here’s a picture of all the kids on one of the many statutes. It was so nice to go with a group of friends. Margot, thank you for inviting us to join in on the fun filled day!! It was great hanging out with all of you.
The bears were basking in the sun.
Even though the polar bears weren’t active, we still went down to the underwater viewing area.
Then we headed upstairs to Pete’s Living Room where Cassie, among all the other kids found the play area. Yes, she slid down that slide. REALLY???
After walking all over the zoo, the younger ones, no – not Kenzie, were tired. Wait . . . so were the big people!!
