Earlier in the spring, Cassie got her invitation back to participate in the Columbus Zoo & Aquarium's ZooAide volunteer program. She had to make a commitment by April 3rd that she would work the min. hours to reserve her spot in the program. The program is very popular among teen volunteers and supposedly very hard to get into. Well, at that time we thought we would be gone before the summer program even started in June and we didn't think it would be fair to the program or another individual to hold her spot when another lucky teen could have the same opportunity.
As many of you know, we are still here in Ohio waiting to find out where we are going with Jay's ministry. Well, a little over a week ago I suggested to her that maybe she call the supervisor of the program and see if there was any possible way she could work a few hours while we are still here. She phoned and got her voicemail so she left a very brief message asking for a return phone call. Then she emailed a detailed message, and then she waited. After a few days, she phoned and got to talk to her contact person. Cassie was so excited when she found out she could go back to the zoo once she attended employee training. So, in a short period of twelve days she took the initiative to see if she could come back since her circumstances had changed, went to employee training, and had her first day back.
I am very proud of her and very excited that she gets to do something she enjoys before we move. FYI . . . even if we move by the first week of Aug., she will more than exceed the min. hours required.
